This neighbourhood is located in the north-western part of Lisbon, near the municipal boundary and adjacent to Benfica and Lumiar. It includes both historic village-like areas and large-scale residential developments from the late 20th century.

The built environment combines older low-rise buildings in the historic core with apartment complexes, social housing estates, and commercial infrastructure developed in later decades. The area is influenced by proximity to major retail centres and road infrastructure, and parts of the district are defined by wide avenues and planned housing blocks rather than traditional street layouts.

Public transport includes metro stations and bus connections linking the district to central Lisbon and surrounding areas. Road access is significant due to nearby ring roads and motorway connections. Property prices are generally lower than in central historic districts, though values vary between older residential areas and newer developments.
